Thyon Dixence Race

August 2

The Thyon-Dixence Race is one of the oldest, most prestigious and popular mountain races in Europe. Created in 1982, it traditionally serves as a major preparation event (and dress rehearsal) for the legendary Sierre-Zinal race which takes place the following weekend.

The unique course: A distance of 16.35 km with 700 m of positive elevation gain (D+) and 475 m of negative elevation (D-). The route is a magnificent high-altitude balcony (always ranging between 2,000 m and 2,400 m altitude), offering breathtaking views of the Valais Alps.

The spectacular finish: The race connects the Thyon-Les Collons resort to the majestic Grande Dixence Dam (the highest gravity dam in the world). The finish line is directly at the top of the dam’s crest, after an impressive final steep climb.

For everyone: In addition to elite runners (who complete the course in just over an hour) and recreational runners, the event welcomes walkers (who start earlier in the morning) as well as children with the Mini Thyon-Dixence.
