Discover the beauty of Becs de Bosson

Located in the Val d’Hérens region of Switzerland, Becs de Bosson is a peak that reaches 3,149 metres above sea level. It is in the canton of Valais and provides some of the most beautiful panoramic views of the Swiss Alps ranging across the Rhône Valley. What truly makes this area one of a kind is its diverse landscapes, making it a great place to visit year-round. With winding trails, wide meadows and glacial areas, there’s so much to discover.

Apart from the natural beauty of this mountain, the Becs de Bosson is also where you will find the Becs de Bosson Cabin. This is a hut located about 2,983 metres up and is a rustic refuge meant for hikers in the summer and skiers in the winter. Here, you can find warm meals, communal lodging options and a place to rest.

How to access the Becs de Bosson Cabin

Getting to the cabin is usually reached by foot during the summer months as hikers and mountaineers are on overnight excursions in the mountain. However, in the winter, ski tourers reach the cabin with skis, snow shoes or by foot, while also using the help of some gondolas.

The gondolas are available in both summer and winter to take you up some of the way. In summer, start at the Bendolla lift’s arrival station, follow the trail along the Marais stream, and ascend past the Lona II ski lift. From there, the path transitions into scree, leading to the Becs de Bosson pass. From here a well-marked trail with stone cairns guides you to the cabin. In winter, take the Bendolla, Grands Plans, and Tsarva ski lifts, then travel across from the Lona II ski lift to the Col des Becs de Bosson, following a maintained track path. It’s our suggestion, that for safety, you use the lower route beneath the hut, which is less exposed to possible avalanches and is regularly maintained with Gazex systems (avalanche control system) and ski patrol control measures.

Hiking routes to the Becs de Bosson Cabin

The most popular access points to the cabin are from Evolène and Grimentz.

From Evolène: Starting from this traditional Swiss village, the hike ascends through lush pastures before reaching more rugged terrain. The route provides stunning views of the Dent Blanche and the Matterhorn. Expect a 4 to 6-hour climb, depending on your pace and fitness level.

From Grimentz: This way takes hikers through the Val de Réchy. This is a protected nature reserve known for its wildflowers, streams, and wildlife. The trail gradually ascends, leading to the Col de Cou. This is the final push before the cabin. This route also takes around 4 to 6 hours and is slightly more steep.

Via the Col de Cou: If you prefer a more scenic and less direct approach, the Col de Cou is a great option. This route is popular with photographers and geology lovers due to the unique rock formations in the area.

Winter activities at Becs de Bosson

Becs de Bosson is a winter wonderland. However, due to its high altitude and remote location, accessing the area in winter requires preparation, experience, and the right equipment. Getting to the Becs de Bosson in winter is a bit more challenging as avalanches and sudden storms can happen at any time.

We highly recommend having proper avalanche gear, including a beacon, shovel and probe. Don’t forget to stay up-to-date with real-time weather notifications.

Once you are fully equipped and prepared, you are ready to enjoy all the winter activities the Becs de Bosson has to offer. From ski touring and snowshoeing to wildlife spotting, there is no shortage of winter activities. The area is rich in wildlife, and if you are lucky enough, you might spot an ibex, chamois or golden eagle.
