Useful information

If you prefer to stay in the larger town of Nendez, just 15 minutes away from Sion, you can take a shuttle service that leaves the gondola departure station in Haute-Nendaz. The shuttle stops along all the bus stops along the way and through to towns, leaving you at the entrance of the festival. There is a shuttle leaving at 4 pm and 6 pm and returning at 11:30 pm and 1 am. Prices range from 13 CHF for one-way tickets and 26 CHF with return.

Otherwise, arriving by car is also possible, with free parking available on-site.

It is also important to note that the festival is NO CASH, so make sure to have your bank card on hand for any purchases of merchandise or at the bar. If you cannot use a card, then there will be a cash-converting kiosk at the entrance of the festival or you can use the Twint app for purchases.

You are not permitted to bring in any bottles, outside food and drink, animals or cameras/ recording devices to the festival grounds.

Finally, remember that although the festival takes place in the high altitudes of the Swiss Alps, it is summer and heat will be an affecting factor. Make sure to apply your sunscreen and wear appropriate clothing. A great tip is to wear some layers so that you can take them off and put them on as the evening hours cool off temperatures.

A starlit experience: what makes Sion unique

Sion is known as a winter ski destination, but it’s also a beautiful location that can be explored in the summer months without the worry of cold temperatures. The town of Sion has many cultural sites that you can visit during the day, before enjoying the festival in the evening. The Château de Tourbillon, known as the old residence of the Prince-Biship of Sion, and Château de Valère, a castle, basilica and art gallery, are two historic sites that offer a glimpse into Sion’s pasts.

Château de Tourbillon is open in the summer months from 10 am to 6 pm, offering guided tours at 11 am, 12 pm, 3:30 pm and 4:30 pm. Make sure to reserve your tour ahead of time. Château de Valère is open to the public Monday – Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm and guided tours of the basilica can be reserved.

For art lovers, the Musée d’Art du Valais is a must-see. It is home to an impressive collection of local art and historical artefacts. It is open from Monday – Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm and costs 8 CHF per adult and only 4 CHF for children and seniors.

But, what would a trip to the Swiss Alps be without enjoying the great outdoors? If you prefer to take advantage of the natural beauty in and around Sion, then we suggest taking a hike through the vineyards of Domaine des Iles. You can stroll through the vineyards and even enjoy a picnic after picking up a bottle or two of some local wines.

Of course, for the bigger adventure seekers, there are the slopes of Crans-Montana, which are perfect for hiking and mountain biking. After a day out in Sion, exploring the town, its art, history and culture, what else is better than to relax at the Sion sous les étoiles 2024 festival?
