Where is Valfréjus, and how to get there?
Valfréjus station is located in the southeastern Savoie department of France. It is part of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and is near the Italian border. The Valfréjus resort sits at an altitude of 1,550 metres, about 6 kilometres from the town of Modane. You can get to Valfréjus station from many major cities across Europe.
By Car
Driving to the Valfréjus ski resort is easy, even for a tourist. Take the A43 motorway toward Turin and exit at junction 30 for Modane/Haute Maurienne. From there, follow the D1006 and then the D216 for about 8 kilometres to reach the resort. The drive from Modane to Valfréjus takes around 15 minutes.
By Train
Luckily, Valfréjus has amazing rail connections. The Modane TGV station offers direct services from Paris, with trips taking about 4 hours. Once you arrive in Modane, you can catch the S50 bus to take you directly to Valfréjus Station.
By Plane
There are several airports near the Valfréjus ski resort. The Chambéry and Grenoble airports are both about 1 hour and 30 minutes away by car. While Geneva Airport and Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport are a bit further away, taking just over 2 hours to reach the resort. Our suggestion for getting to the Valfréjus station from these airports is to opt for a private transfer or car rental. Of course, you can also take the train from Modane.

Known as one of the best ski resorts in the Alps, the Valfréjus ski resort has a diverse and well-designed ski area that stretches from 1,550 metres at the base to 2,737 metres at Punta Bagna. That means that there is a vertical drop of almost 1,200 metres. You can enjoy 29 pistes covering a total of 83 kilometres with trails for many different levels. There are 4 green slopes for beginners, 10 blue runs for intermediate skiers, 11 red pistes for advanced levels, and 4 black slopes for expert skiers. Apart from the slopes, there are many off-piste areas perfect for freeriders.
The Valfréjus resort was actually one of the first to offer speed riding (a blend between skiing and paragliding). If you prefer not to ski or snowboard, there are plenty of other activities to enjoy here. In the winter, try showshoeing through marked trails, such as the Herbiers and Essarts paths.
